Anfield cat up for adoption

The Anfield cat, a stray tabby which halted play in the recent Liverpool-Spurs match, has been placed up for adoption and is currently being looked after in an animal care centre.

The midfield moggy somehow found himself near Brad Friedel’s goal and appeared reasonably calm despite the ominous presence of 45,000 football supporters in full voice.  After a few minutes he was eventually picked up by a steward and taken away for an early bath.

He has been renamed Shankly, after Liverpool’s successful manager, and even managed to set up a Twitter account in his spare time.  He has over 50,000 followers, although it is fair to say that he doesn’t realise this.

A spokesperson for Shankly’s temporary home, the Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre, said: “Shankly will remain in our care for a number of weeks as he recuperates after his life on the streets.

He will be vaccinated and neutered as this is something any responsible pet owner should do and he will be micro chipped to Freshfields.  Shankly will be up for rehoming and any potential adoptee will be asked to go through the same adoption process as with any of our other cats."
