Pet dental care proves expensive for owners
According to MoneyHighStreet, the average cost of dental treatment for a dog or cat is £200, and Sainsbury’s Finance has found that 60% of pet owners did not have the type or level of pet insurance required to cover the cost.
Interestingly, the research found that the East Midlands and East of the England have the highest rates of dental problems reported in dogs and cats, whilst Labradors and Siamese cats are the breeds that endure the most dental difficulty.
Lucy Hunter, from Sainsbury’s Pet Insurance, said: “Owners should take their pets to the vet for regular dental checks and take professional advice to reduce the risk of problems occurring. Also, when looking at pet insurance policies, owners should choose very carefully and not just consider price alone.”
“Investing in a good quality policy that offers a high level of cover, including dental cover, will ensure that the family pet is well cared for and you won’t have to worry about costly treatments.”
There are plenty of good, affordable pet insurance policies around, and many that can include dental care such as Sainsbury’s Finance, but owners are advised to make sure that they check the level of cover before purchase.
