Post-Christmas health checks advised for pets
A recent study has found that the festive period can prove to be somewhat excessive for UK pets, as owners admit to over-feeding their dogs, and offering them too many unhealthy snacks as treats.
UKNetGuide reports that the study, which was commissioned by Direct Line, found around 33% of dog owners were giving biscuits, chocolate and various other snacks to their pooches over Christmas.
Just under half of those that took part in the survey claimed to have given their dog a whole Christmas dinner, and it was found that 7% had allowed their dog to snack on something from the Christmas tree.
Adam Whiteley, head of Direct Line pet insurance, said: "We often neglect to increase the exercise levels for our pets, who may have also gorged on holiday treats."
Feeding a dog inappropriate or unhealthy foods in excess can severely damage their health, so post-Christmas health check are a good idea. Pet insurance will also help to tackle any health problems that do arise in the future.
