Always Read The Small Print On Pet Insurance Polices

When buying Pet Insurance, please be aware that all policies are different and something covered by one provider may not be covered by another.

A lot of Insurance companies will put a cap a single illness meaning that you will end up footing the bill for the rest.

Many insurers will offer you insurance that will always cover every illness, no matter how many times you claim for the same condition throughout your pets lifetime

These policies are usually a lot more expensive, but a few extra £ a month could mean saving you a fortune when your pet becomes ill.

So make sure you know exactly what you are covered for so you don’t get any nasty surprises.

i went with m&s for my cat insurance, we had paid £400 for our cat so we took a more expensive policy. our cat was sadly killed by a dog and m&s paid us back for the cost of our cat on proof of a receipt. i know that receiving money for the loss of a pet is no consolation, but m&s were kind, compassionate and paid us out within 2 weeks. some policy's don't cover this so make sure that you get the policy that suits you best.

i always pay top dollar my my pet insurance. if you get cover that covers you for everything, no matter how many times it happens then you can't go wrong! i have a cocker spaniel and they are renowned for getting ear infections. on some insurances they would only treat that condition once in a year, which is no good at all!

Make sure you check the maximum amount per claim too - vet bills can be scarily expensive so you might not be totally covered for the whole bill!

Never underestimate the importance of double checking what you are covered for. I have recently had to make a claim for my horse and only then (once injury had occurred and vet treatment was essential) did it come to light that I was effectively under-insured. I has taken me almost 6 months to pay off the vets fees not covered by the insurance, and I have since changed provider and increased my policy cover, it's an expensive mistake I won't be making twice!
